High Schoolers: join and become an assistant coach for fall outdoor soccer or winter indoor soccer! 

Northern Valley Soccer Youth Coach Program

It offers high school students, with general knowledge of soccer, the opportunity to become assistant coaches for their town recreation soccer program. This program offers coaching experience and volunteer service hours, while engaging high schoolers to give back and stay involved with the community.

Who is eligible?

High school students from the 9 towns which participate in the league.
Students must have basic knowledge of soccer, and preferably, students will have previously played in their town rec soccer program.

What is required of youth assistant coaches?

1. Complete the 2 online coaching trainings. Students must show proof of registration for trainings to participate.
2. Expected to attend practices and games to serve as an assistant coach to an adult head coach.
3. Keep track of volunteer hours during the soccer season.
4. Complete one page feedback survey at end of season to help improve the program.

How to sign up to be assistant coach?

1. Students must register with your Town Soccer Commissioner BEFORE the fall outdoor or winter indoor season starts.
2. Students must also email the Northern Valley Soccer Youth Coach Coordinator, Casey Ference, at casey@daarec.org. Casey will help students register for required online trainings and work with the Town Commissioner to ensure students are assigned to a team. Please include name, grade and town when emailing him.

1. Rutgers University SAFETY
(Sports Awareness For Educating Today’s Youth) Clinic: 3 hour online training

2. CDC Heads Up Concussion Training
This training, developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is designed specifically for youth sports coaches. This training will cover concussion basics, what to do when an athlete shows signs and symptoms of concussion, and it will explore how coaches can contribute to concussion prevention and safety.
